Dear data applicants,

Survey and Research Center for China Household Finance Survey (hereinafter refer to the Center) has been conducting the China Household Finance Survey every two years since 2009. Now the Center has successfully conducted nationwide random sample surveys of households four times, respectively in 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2017. So far, the Center has conducted four rounds of the China Household Finance Survey (CHFS) and one round of China Small and Micro Enterprises Survey (CMES).

In 2011, the first round of survey samples were distributed in 25 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the central government), 82 counties (districts and county-level cities), and 320 village (residential) committees, with a sample size of 8,438 households. The data is nationally representative and has been available freely since 2012.

The second round of survey in 2013 covered 29 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the central government), 267 counties (districts and county-level cities), and 1,048 village (residential) committees, with a sample size of 28,141 households. At the same time, the second round of survey added the provincial representative on the premise of ensuring the national representative of the data, and reflected the economic and financial conditions of Chinese households more comprehensive and detailed.

In 2015, the third round of survey samples covered 29 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the central government), 351 counties (districts and county-level cities), and 1,396 village (residential) committees, with a sample size of 37,289 households. In addition, the survey samples of small and micro enterprises in 2015 covered 28 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the central government), 79 counties (districts and county-level cities), and 234 towns and villages, with a sample size of 5,497 households.

In 2017, the fourth round of surveys covered 29 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the central government), 355 counties (districts and county-level cities), and 1,428 village (residential) committees, with a sample size of 4,011 households.

At present, the database of the Center in 2011, 2013 and 2015 is open to researchers inside and outside the university. Researchers for academic research purposes can register and apply for data in the data center of the center website.

The following is the website for registration and data application: http://chfs.swufe.edu.cn/datas/

The Center provides users with data in STATA format (data can be opened using STATA version 13.0), corresponding questionnaires, and data instructions, etc.

Currently, the Household Financial Survey database in 2017 needs to be used on the central data integration platform. Due to the resource limitation of the integrated platform, the application is temporally only open to the university alliance users who have cooperated in 2017.

In addition, other survey data have not been opened to the public yet. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Best wishes!
